Birmingham University, Gavin Schaffer put up a our movement, Wellesley Aron, giving his own
mirror before us so that we could see ourselves
in our true statistical colours, as he analysed the
statistics of British Jewry and the proportion of
Olim over the last 60 years.

The book fair always plays a great part in our
get-togethers. I, as always, brought a load of
books and came back home with an even bigger
load, which Rina and I haven’t yet finished
reading
Of course, the Habonim Choir has a firm place
in the movement, so we welcome the recent
initiative, the Habonim Central Choirette, under
its choirmaster, Ralph. Kol Hakavod and lots of
luck in your prospects to become the new
Habonim Choir.
On the Friday morning, David Lawrence Young,
historical novelist, lectured about the founder of
25
slant on the character of the man, who in his own
pragmatic way, originated and succeeded in
many spheres of activity and from our point of
interest produced the movement which 80 to 90
years later, we still cherish.

The various activities in the programme, kept up
the pace of the event and whenever there were
gaps, we were happy to get together with old
friends, with whom we often don’t get the
opportunity to do so.
Then, continuing on the Friday morning came
the ever-popular Harry Levi Quiz, which, again
was conducted by our unflappable quizmaster,
Frank Farbenbloom, ably assisted by his wife
Elaine, who kept score.
Chairman, Barry Coleman rounded up the event
with his summing up remarks following which,
after our fond farewells, we wended our ways
home, feeling euphoric and hopeful for the next
time.
