Hagshama in Israeli society, and how we can be active
participants in strengthening these values in the reality that
we currently live.
The trail was filled with sculptures and, at times, steep hills
(because sometimes achieving peace is a difficult journey to
complete). We spoke about the importance of continuing to
push for peace, even though there are those who are
actively fighting against it; the importance of continuing to
position the memory of Rabin’s murder as a central element
in Israeli society’s collective memory; fighting against
despair with hope and optimism; and having a long-term
vision for Hagshama – on a personal, movement, Israeli
society and Jewish world level.
I left our day at Derech Rabin feeling inspired.
Deciding to take part in the journey to continue to climb the
ladder of our collective, national Hagshama, with all the
complexities, complications, challenges and chutzpah that is
involved, to create a more peaceful, just, safe, equal and
loving Israeli society and Jewish world, is not an easy nor an
obvious choice to make. But the dream of being able to
guide ourselves to climb up the next rung, to take part in
building the vision of the great nation that Avraham began,
and the vision of the peaceful nation that Rabin sought to
create, is just too enticing.
As an oleh, I believe that fighting against despair and
building hope are ideals which are present within the
decision to make Aliyah with the movement and, with a new
wave of olim coming to Israel in the very near future,
continue to inspire me to strive to create spaces for us in the
movement and Israeli society to build our dream B’Artzenu.
