Dinner tonight is something new we have brought
to machaneh - poke bowls. Each week tzevet
mitbach meets to brainstorm what we want to
cook, and the menu reflects a mixture of people’s
unique ideas - stir-fry with lettuce wraps, gyro
sandwich bar, bourekas - and camp classics like
chili and mac n’ cheese. One tzevet member has
already put hours into making sushi rice and the
rest of us chop up and prep the poke toppings:
tofu, sweet potato, tamago egg, edamame, carrot,
and everyone’s favorite avocado. It’s exciting to
bring something that chanichimot haven’t tried
before. There’s a little bit of risk to it but we know
that if everyone besides the picky kids are eating
we’ve done something cool.

Ah, night in the mitbach. Everyone’s favorite time
to rest and yet the messy kitchen calls to us. Two
members of the tzevet do a general clean - wiping
surfaces, sweeping the floors, tossing out leftovers
that we won’t use anymore. And then the real
party starts - it’s time to use Pilliam, our giant
industrial mopping machine. Pilliam has a whole
personality, clunky to use but super helpful. Love
to love him, love to hate him.
After Pilliaming the whole mitbach the tzevet gets
together for an erev tarbut / chevrati. Tzevet
mitbach is a tzevet just like the ones who lead
chanichimot, brought together by shared
responsibility and a love of the people and the
place. We go through ups and downs and
dynamics and have a whole lot of fun with each
