took zoom calls in cars, in their pajamas, on their beds,
and walking to different places. But, we still came to
the calls, and made it work. (reference to Project
Runway and Tim Gunn)
After a couple months of having peulot with this new
group of people, our madrichimot came to us with a
proposal to choose a name for ourselves. We had two
blocks of time over the span of a week to come up with
our name. We had different discussions of what our
name should be. We decided it needed to be in a Jewish
language, like Yiddish, Ladino, or Hebrew. We wanted a
name that showed that we came from a variety of
movement backgrounds. And most important, we wanted a
name that sounded good. Without further ado, here is
what we came up with. We

KVUTZAT TLAIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tlaim is the Hebrew word for “Patchwork.” This idea
came up when Zandra was talking about her time in
Senegal and learning about a specific people, the Baye
Fall, and their relationship with patchwork
materials. For them, wearing patchwork is a symbol of
dedication to their community and religion, a symbol
of labor, and a symbol of repairing. We chose this as
our new kvutzah name because we see ourselves in a
similar light. We view our kvutzah as a symbol of
dedication to Habo, a symbol of our labor in
