EDITORIAL
I hope that the first issue of the iton for 2021 finds you in
good health, and with renewed energy for the challenges
we face as a movement going forward.
The youth movement around the world is looking for ways
to overcome the enormous financial strain it finds itself
dealing with, in a large part due to the cancellation of so
many in-person activities due to COVID.
But the implications of this testing period stretch further
than that: it’s hard to comprehend a reality where
madrichimot and chanichimot have been unable to meet
one another, sometimes for months on end.
But the movement is full of passionate, dedicated and
creative people. Time and again, movement members have
found ever more innovative ways to connect with each
other, and continue working towards change – both tikkun
atzmi and tikkun haolam (Improving ourselves and healing
the world).
Movement olimot here in Israel have also needed to come
to terms with the new situation. Without being able to
welcome newcomers in at the airport, aliyah ceremonies
have moved online, a surprising upside being that people
that may otherwise have been unable to attend, can log on
from home.
