For a bit more
than 3 years now
I’ve lived in Tiveria
with my kvutzah,
our home has an
awesome view of
the kinneret. In
the mornings I
look out our
windows and see
the sun rising over the shimmering waters, and at night
the lake reflects the moon’s peaceful light behind a city
filled with light and traffic. I feel so lucky to live here, and
to be watched by the kinneret as generations of
chalutzimot before me. From the first kvutzah at
Deganya, to the birth of the kibbutz movement,
hachshara of so many young olimot and now to the
urban educator’s kibbutz we are building here in the city,
the kinneret has been a constant presence connecting us
through years beyond our own.
When first moving here I promised myself that I wouldn’t
allow the kinneret to become simply part of the
background, that I wouldn’t get used to its beauty, and
sometimes I need to stop myself and remember this
promise. I wanted to share some photos I’ve taken of the
kinneret with the Habonim Dror community. I hope you
enjoy, and that she sparks that same chalutzic spirit she
has for me and generations of our Zionist foremothers
and forefathers.
