Habonim Morocco

               Dec, 1951

In various parts of the world various Zionist Youth
Movements have sprung up, many of whom have
assumed the name “Habonim”. Most of these Movements
have become established in the Anglo-Saxon countries,
but only now are we becoming aware of a Zionist
awakening, with the consequent emergence of Youth
Movements, in previously unknown and undiscoverd
Jewish Communities. In North Africa live large numbers
of Jewry, considerable section of whom have been on the
move towards Israel since the formation of the State.

Recently we have come in contact with groups called
Habonim in various parts of North Africa. We reprint
below extracts from a letter received by us, describing
the Movement in that part of the world:-

There are seven snifim in Morocco, the main one appears
to be in Casablanca, with 140-150 chaverim, and the rest
                                                                 rd

in small townlets. A Moatza was held on the 22 -23
September, whose aim was to review the year’s work.
There is a great lack of madrichim who could concentrate
on Hadracha. We have decided that our future lies in the
formation of a good group of the age 12-16, and we must
concentrate on this age group. Such a shichva does not
exist at present. At first sight, and according to all the
activities which were held last year, it seems to have
been a fruitful and successful year, but the main goal has
not yet been achieved; we have not yet succeeded in
kindling within the hearts of the youth the flame of
