Name: Renata Kibrit, shortened to Re, pronounced with a Hebrew
chet sound and not an R sound.
Kvutsah: Derech No. of Members: 4
Why Derech? Many reasons. Because of the example we want to set. We
st
are also expressing a new way of life – we are the 1 kvutsah from Brazil.
Location: Absorption centre in Ashkelon
nd
Date of Aliyah: 2 March 2007
How did your kvutsah start? Our garin started in Brazil – The Brazilians decided to make aliyah
together. When we arrived in Israel we heard about an Argentinian that was living in Ashkelon,
also from the movement, with the same objectives as us and the four of us decided to make a new
kvutsah.
How is it being the newest kvutsah in the tnuat bogrim here in Israel? I really like it because
we feel part of the movement here in Israel. We feel a great responsibility towards this project
st
because we are the 1 kvutsah from Brazil and some of our friends are arriving soon. Our duty is
to keep going.
Favourite Socialist / Zionist. Why? Gordon, he did things and not just talked about theory and
that’s what I like about him.
Funniest Movement Moment: I have a long movement history - every character you dress up as is
so funny. I remember two weeks before the last machaneh I was on in Brazil, I went out with my
tzevet to buy supplies. We bought some construction hard-hats which we ended up wearing for
the whole machaneh!
Your first name means reborn. Have you ever thought about Hebraizing your name? Why?
Or even translating it? She’nolad me’chadash Not sure – it has been a real problem for me
since arriving in Israel. To be honest, I’m having a bit of a crisis about it. People just can’t
pronounce my name. I have been thinking about changing it. Not sure yet whether I will translate
it in terms of meaning or just do something to make it sound more Hebrew.
Current Ringtone: A basic Nokia tune. Pretty boring right? The problem is that I keep choosing a
song but when I take my memory card out of the phone to change the music on it, and then put it
back in, the phone reverts to the default nokia tone. I’m a bit lazy to pick something new when it
keeps changing back.
What are you reading right now? Two books: ‘Blink’ by Malcolm Gladwell – about thinking and
having opinions and changing your first impressions about things and ‘Teacher Man’ by Frank
McCourt – a biography of an Irish-American teacher who taught in high school in New York.
What music are you listening to right now? Machina
Food you would rather not eat: I like pretty much everything. But this week I had a terrible
food experience; Some friends cooked a typical Mexican dish - spicy chicken with chocolate
sauce, chillis, peppers and coke. It was disgusting.
