If you don’t feel like doing the research I’ll give you the
short cut to understanding her message: put all of your
stuff in the middle of your room and pick up each
object one by one. For each object decide if it brings
you happiness or not. If it does, put it into the “keep”
pile. If not, say thank you for all that it has given you,
and put it in the donate pile. You’d be surprised by how
many things we own that don’t even bring us true
happiness.
Another thought: cleaning out your closet is renewal
and renewal is a cleansing high holiday requirement
therefore everyone must clean out their closet if they
want to feel more Jewish, it’s basically radical Jewish
self-care.
Enjoy the chagim!!
Shula
Dear Shula,
My parents make a big deal out of Rosh Hashanah
dinner and everyone is always with their partners
except me. I saw a movie about a girl who finds this
random guy and he comes with her to all of her holiday
dinners so she doesn’t have to be alone. Should I do
that too?
