At this time of year, we remember former Israeli
Prime Minister and Chief of Staff Yitzhak Rabin,
who was killed 26 years ago for working towards
peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
It is hard to imagine an Israeli Prime Minister
today, saying the following words:
“I would like Israel to be a Jewish state, and
therefore not to annex over 2 million Palestinians
who live in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to
Israel, which will make Israel a bi-national state”.
But this is what Yitzhak Rabin believed, and what
he worked towards, and he paid the ultimate
personal cost for such a view.
We, the inheritors of the peace camp, must do
everything we can to continue the work that
Rabin began. Pirke Avot tells us that we are not
required to finish this work, yet neither are we
permitted to desist from it.
