Closing Tekkes

There is a special type
of beauty found on
Kibbutz Ravid. The way
the light hits the ever-
present flowers and the
rolling green and brown hills turns every window
into a breathtaking painting. Some of us felt that it
was hard to imagine at the end of shorashim that
anywhere could compare to Ravid, but we found
another vibrant beauty in Haifa’s winding, bustling
streets, stunning views and our routine bus rides
on the aleph 37 route. In both places, the vistas
were as visceral as they were visual, tied together
by our lived experience of the city and of Ravid.
Thus, it is not only their physical beauty that is so
special but also the beauty of what they represent.
Both Haifa and Ravid feel like home to us and the
Israeli movement counterpart of Habonim Dror
North America, HaNoar HaOved vHaLomed. Our
apartment at the top of Mount Carmel was home
through November and December; it was our
center, and Ravid was always there for us, from
September to December.
Ravid is not only our kvutsa’s center, but also the
beating heart of the wonderful magical family that
