Garin Zayin – 50 years on -Celebration of a Generation

                                                     Amiad - October 2015

                There is a quiet sense that something is happening out there. Beyond the realities of our daily lives there is
                a discreet whisper, an almost inaudible chattering, drawing on those golden days of our youth, I see it in
                                                                       th
                emails from around the globe, I hear of it in descriptions of 70 birthday parties where many
                people talking about going to the "Celebration". A generation is asking to be linked to Dropbox, to
                witness the evidence of innocence and virtue of years long gone by. So:

                All those who thought of joining Garin Zayin and did;
                All those who thought of joining Garin Zayin, but did not;
                All those who never thought of joining Garin Zayin, but were around at that time;
                All those who on hearing the words “Garin Zayin Generation” think “holy sh*t”, that may be me.

                Or to those who thought that it sounded like a good idea at the time and are now reading this and who feel
                a part of the Garin Zayin Generation, this invitation comes to haunt you from that Habonim Generation of
                50 years ago, who wish to invite you to join us at our Celebration planned for October 2015 at Kibbutz
                Amiad. Chaverim who today are scattered all over the globe, and who remember fondly the days of their
                youth in Habonim, will be participating in this grand “50 Years On”.

                Garin Zayin was formed in 1962 in Manchester/on Machon/on Hachshara (depends on whom you ask)
                and each year throughout the sixties from 1965 onwards, small Kvutsot arrived in Kibbutz Amiad. The
                accompanying Movement Generation, who, over time, found themselves in Israel or dispersed throughout
                the world, and others who just kept on dancing, are all invited to join us. The first of our number to come
                on Aliyah came alone from Manchester in 1964.

                “In April, 2014, it was 50 years since I arrived in Haifa, Israel, being the first member of Garin Zayin.
                Announcing to the port that I was the first Zayin to arrive in Israel, the port almost came to a standstill.
                Frank Fisher and the rest of the Machonikim nearly did a somersault. And in the distance, from a local
                porter on the quay came the almost inaudible response, Chabibi, you are not the first………” M.B.
