sectors and ethnic identity. If I could, I would
completely reject the archaic system of
coalition and opposition and create a system
where all parts of Israeli society would be
represented and partners in governance. But it
seems that Israeli society isn’t ready for such a
radical idea.
So to the members of the center and the left, I
say that we must focus on building a new
government but to still remember that any
covenant that excludes the weakest part of the
society is going to painfully crash and burn. This
governmental option is temporary. There are
two options - either expand the party presence
into the poorer communities or begin to
imagine a future of shared governance with
Likud and its partners. Whoever thinks we can
bring about social justice without the
representation of the Israeli poor at the
coalition’s table is bound to be proven wrong.
