EDITORIAL
It’s been nothing less than overwhelming the response
to the new look iton. Thanks for getting in touch, sharing
your ideas and of course, for sending your contributions.
Iton Habonim Dror is our platform – a place to let each
other know both what we’ve been up to, and where it is
we want to go – together.
In this issue we have a fascinating (edited) article by the
sociologist Eva Illouz. Even though it was written right at
the beginning of the pandemic, it would be a shame not
to share it with those who may have missed it. In it, she
makes a strong argument as to the pandemic’s ability to
reveal the true nature of the neo-liberal ideology – in
three words - one big sham. When a world crisis hits – it’s
only a combination of solidarity between people, and
government intervention, that’s going to keep us alive.
Elsewhere, there’s an historical letter describing
Moroccan Habonim at the beginning of the 1950’s, and
an opinion piece by the Mazkir of HDUK about what
Zionism means to him today. It would be great to hear
more voices on this topic, of how we are able to
reconcile our Zionist beliefs with the values of justice,
peace and democracy. Send your thoughts and we can
keep the conversation going!
