Describe Location: Ramat Gan
Favourite Socialist / Zionist. Why? Ad Gordon – He has a
lot of good ideas wrapped all together; he touches on labor
in ways others don’t and Zionism in a really spiritual way
which is, literally, down to earth. It is nice that he can
connect it in multiple ways – there is something cosmic about the Jewish people’s connection to Israel
that we just have to accept. If you accept that then Zionism is where you are going to go.
Why don't they call moustaches Mouthbrows? ‘Mouthbrow’ is descriptive but doesn’t have anything
stylistic about it. ‘Moustache’ has that French je ne sais quoi about it. When you see a moustache you
think to yourself ‘yeh’, and when you see a mouthbrow you think ‘urgggg’.
Funniest Movement Moment: At Veida on Winter seminar in 2007, there was a proposal put forward
to define the term bayit: what classifies a bayit and what doesn’t. We on mazkitut artzit thought it
was a bad idea to try and define something that would stop you reaching the goal. Kenan Jaffe, the
gizbar at the time, begins to give an impassioned argument as to why it is not a good idea. During his
speech, people start to do ‘mosh goggles’ (encouraging him to act in a funny way while he is speaking).
In the middle of this impassioned argument, he looks at these people, pauses, puts a hand over one eye
and continues his argument whilst acting like a pirate.
Current Ringtone: Excelsior Lady by The Donkeys. Fairly unknown but has a nice ring to it!
What are you reading right now? Efor Hayiti Lifnei She Noladiti: Philosophy for Kids by Dan Lasri –
a children’s book to improve my Hebrew
What music are you listening to right now? Very large collection of Israeli music from the past 50
years, organized by decade – to get to know Israeli culture better and a list of the top 50 songs of
2008 from my favourite music blog – ‘Said the Gramophone’.
Food you would rather not eat? Really oily foods – they are really hurting my stomach lately.
Vision for the new Kibbutz Movement… I see the new kibbutz movement as structurally a mix
between somewhat traditional kibbutzim – separated, whilst connected to the land, and newer, urban
style kibbutzim, working together and providing different things. For example, Eshbal being separate
provides different things such as the ability to have a boarding school. It offers a fully enclosed
environment, like machaneh in Habo, and there are other places like this with a connection to
agriculture. The history of Habonim Dror has a connection to agriculture. On the other hand, we know
the value of urban kibbutz and their connection to society around them and their ability to reach to
the disenfranchised in society and give them support and education.
Tafkid in the movement: Recaz for boneh (Machzor Chet) and Rosh MBI (Yud-Chet) this summer.
